Application process

Applying for One Day School Rotorua.

The application process starts with an expression of interest. There are two assessments throughout the year; the first towards the end of Term 2, and the second around the beginning of Term 4.

While we take expressions of interest at any time throughout the year, the assessments and cut-offs for each intake are as follows:

  • The assessment for the mid-year intake (students joining One Day School at the beginning of Term 3 of the same academic year) will be towards the end of Term 2.

  • The assessment for the new year intake (students joining One Day School at the start of the next academic year) will take place in the first few weeks of Term 4.

You will be notified of specific application deadlines once you have registered your interest.

Note, families of children attending One Day School pay an annual fee of $200.00 ($50.00 per term) to cover resources. Additional funding is graciously provided by Launchpad.

Almost anyone can apply on behalf of a gifted child.

We typically receive expressions of interest from a child’s teacher, school principal, parent, or caregiver.

Wondering if your child is gifted?

How to apply.

If you know a child who would thrive at One Day School, you can kick things off with an expression of interest.

  1. Register your interest
    Fill out our
    online form to get started.

  2. Chat with our lead teacher
Our lead teacher will be in touch close to our assessment dates (late term 2, and late term 4)  to discuss the next steps and book an assessment. She’ll also answer any questions you might have.

  3. Group assessment
Your child will join a small group of children for an activity-based assessment (aproximately 2 - 3 hours), where our teachers observe and get to know how they learn.

  4. Review & discussion
Our teaching team meets to review the assessment and determine the best fit for your child.

  5. Placement offer
Families will hear back shortly after the assessment. If a place is available and One Day School is the right fit, we’ll confirm details and find a day that works - remember, it’s just one day a week!
